Nate Chute Hawaiian Classic - Whitefish

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 - Thursday, March 18, 2010

This is a snowboard competition held in memory of Nate Chute, and has turned into one of the most prolific events in the Northwest. Nate was a well known snowboarder from Whitefish, who took his own young life. Now, many of his friends come back to Whitefish from all over the west coast to participate in this event. A portion of the proceeds go to the Nate Chute Memorial Fund which provides help to local teens and adolescents during times of need. Cash prizes for Pro/Open categories, with a purse of $2000.

Saturday will be a banked slalom through George's Gorge on Chair 7. This is a timed event which seeds racers for the Sunday boardercross. Sunday is the Biggest Boardercross in Montana, with over 100 riders competing for the title. Up to 4 racers at a time through a great course consisting of jumps, banks, rollers and traffic. Top 2 riders advance to next round, each rider has at least 2 chances before being eliminated. Very very, very, very fun.

This year is the 11th year of the event, and there will be celebrations all weekend. There will be bands, activities, bonfires, dog sleds and an art show highlighting the history of the event. Thanks to the Nate Chute Foundation and Stumptown Snowboards for being fantastic contributors to this event.
