National Museum of Forest Service History - Missoula

The National Museum of Forest Service History is a nonprofit organization wholly separate from the U.S. Forest Service. Its mission is to tell the conservation story of the United States, with the Forest Service serving as the cornerstone of that story. The Museum has a 50,000 item archival collection of photographs, historic artifacts, documents, and books, many of which are available online. There are traveling and virtual exhibits also.

On our 36-acre campus one mile west of the Missoula International Airport is a historic Ranger's Cabin that serves as the Visitor's Center with exhibits and a small gift shop. The Museum also features a self-toured Forest Discovery Trail that winds among a Champion Grove of trees with interactive and interpretive signage about our country's conservation history, a "L-4" Fire Lookout, and a pack corral and weather station.
