Kootenai Mountain Scenic Drive - Troy

This scenic road system of Forest Service roads provides a breathtaking view of the Kootenai River and Bull Lake Valley. Turn on Road 331 and continue on Road 4445 for vistas of the Kootenai River, Cabinet Mountains, Savage Lake, and the Bull Lake Valley. A closer view of these falls may be obtained from Highway 2, where an observation point and overpass access a swinging bridge spanning the river. Although Road 4445 continues beyond the general view area for the falls, it is advisable to terminate your scenic drive here and return to Troy.

End: Viewpoint opposite Kootenai Falls; Elevation 4,200 feet.

From Troy, follow the paved road to the old Kootenai River bridge. Cross and turn right, driving along the river for .5 mile. Turn onto Road 331 and follow 4 miles to Road 4445. Turn and follow 5 miles across the rugged face of Kootenai Mountain, directly above the Kootenai River.
