Upper Missouri River Keelboat - Fort Benton

Upper Missouri River Keelboat invites you to take a step back in time on the scenic and historic Missouri River. Travel the watery trail of Lewis & Clark through country virtually unchanged since their days.

Experience this beautiful and unique area with its varied and abundant wildlife, from the comfort and peacefulness of the keelboat, General Wm. Ashley. (A 38-foot replica of the keelboats that plied the fur and robe trade on the Upper Missouri before the days of the steamboats.)

The General Wm. Ashley was designed specifically for the shallow waters of the Upper Missouri River and is extremely maneuverable and stable in all conditions. An experienced and caring crew (all in period dress) man the boat.

A minimum of 6 to a maximum of 12 guests can be seated comfortably in the mid-ships cabin or experience hands-on keel boating to further enhance this unique Lewis & Clark experience.

Guests will have the opportunity to experience living-history presentations and primitive skills demonstrations from a direct descendant of one of the areas first settlers. Short scenic hikes to vantage points and historical sites will be offered. Discover what a river looked like at the time of Lewis and Clark in 1805.

Camp in comfort at places Lewis and Clark encamped over 200 years before. Discover the rich history of the river with every turn of the bend.

All equipment (except sleeping bags and personal items) will be provided. A list of suggested items to bring will be sent upon confirmation of launch date and reservations. Top quality meals will be served on our 3- and 4-day expeditions. Riverside lunches also will be provided for our single day tours.

We also offer 1 to 5 day guided canoe trips on the Wild & Scenic Missouri and Marias River.
