Virgelle Merc & Missouri River Canoe Company - Fort Benton

Missouri River Canoe Company is located at Virgelle, a restored homestead-era settlement in a remote spot adjoining the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. Our headquarters in the historic Virgelle Mercantile offers visitors a variety of outfitting options for canoe tripping on the Missouri River. Services range from canoe/kayak rental, to fully outfitted and guided river trips including canoes, shuttle, food, and camping gear.

The Missouri is a flat-water river, easily navigable for beginners, yet geologically and historically rich enough to intrigue seasoned river enthusiasts. This is a quiet, remote stretch of river, offering the ultimate adventure getaway. You can camp where Lewis and Clark camped and read their journal entries describing today's well-preserved landscape, as you ponder those earlier travels. Explore long abandoned homesteads and woodhawk campsites to gain a sense of the rugged beginnings of white settlement in the American west.

Before and/or after your river trip, enjoy overnight accommodations at Virgelle. Choose from authentic homestead cabins or historic B&B rooms, each of which reflect a bygone era with modern amenities. Cabins and B&B rooms include a fresh breakfast each morning in the dining room.

Overnight accommodations and river outfitting services presented in true Montana fashion, in a genuine setting, from friendly people.
