Ernest Hemingway used to hang out in Billings and Red Lodge, and helped put Billings on the map with his preposterous audio recording titled “Saturday Night at the Whorehouse in Billings Montana”?
On July 20, novelist Keith McCafferty and newspaper reporter Gail Schontzler will lead an informal panel discussion about what they learned about Hemingway’s time in Montana.
Keith got to know Patrick Hemingway and Ernest Hemingway appears from time to time in his books, particularly “Cold Hearted River (winner of the 2018 Will Rogers Gold Medallion Award for Best Novel), and Gail’s research on Hemingway resulted in her fascinating 2015 article, “Hunting for Hemingway in Yellowstone Country.”
McCafferty’s most current novel, “A Death in Eden,” is a finalist for the 2019 High Plains Book Award. Schontzler just won a first place award for education writing from the Montana Newspaper Association.
