Nestled in a lush ranch valley between the Swan and Garnet Mountains, and on the banks of the fabled Blackfoot River, the tiny community of Ovando justly boasts that it allows for more scenery per capita than any other small town in Montana. Ovando is what Montana is all about. This remote community offers the unique solitude one expects from a Montana retreat. On MT Highway 200, sixty miles from Missoula, and over eighty miles from Helena or Great Falls, Ovando serves as the southern entry to the legendary Bob Mashall/Scapegoat Wilderness Complex. The complex contains one and one half million acres of roadless, pristine wilderness and sprawls over both sides of the Continental Divide. Summer in Ovando allows for fishing, hiking and camping along the Blackfoot or one of its many tributaries. Winter offers miles of groomed snowmobile trails, cross country skiing, and snow shoeing. In spring and fall, Ovando explodes into color-glorious wildflowers in spring; golds and reds of cottonwoods and aspens and larches in fall. Whatever the season, this tiny Montana community will surely offer the perfect mountain fix.
