Tobacco Root Mountains
The third oldest town in Montana, natives claim that Edward, Prince of Wales, the son of Queen Victoria, spent three days in the Silver Star Hotel during his visit in 1878. Although probably true, the claim seems odd today, given that Silver Star can boast only 60 residents if the outlying areas are included. Named after a prosperous mine in the area, Silver Star now serves as a gathering point for local ranching families. Silver Star provides day access to the Jefferson River, a fly fishing destination. Several unique craft and gift shops make Silver Star a fun place to stop and browse for a while.
