Willard is south of Baker. The present townsite was once the home range of the 101 Ranch, established by the Standard Cattle Company of Texas in 1888. Longhorns were brought in from Texas in herds of three to four thousand head, summered and fattened at Willard, then driven fifty miles to Wibaux for shipment to Chicago markets.
