High Rye Cabin - Butte

High Rye Cabin is located in the historic mining district of German Gulch and was built prior to 1919. It was used as an administrative site until the 1940s. Access to trails and fishing are within walking and driving distance.

The cabin has two rooms, one bedroom with two bunkbeads and a living area. The living area consists of a table, chairs, woodstove with a flat top for cooking, dishes, axe, and sometimes wood for burning in the stove (check with the ranger district on wood availability). There is an outhouse adjacent to the cabin. No drinking water is available. There is a round corral and a small pasture adjacent to the site. There are no modern bathroom facilities, electricity, or potable water.

The cabin is available May 16 through November 31. Capacity is four people. The non- refundable fee is $20.00 per night. Any changes in scheduled dates may be assessed an additional fee by NRRS. For more information please call the Butte Ranger District at 406-494-2147. Access to High Rye Cabin is through a keyed lock on the door. This key may be obtained at the Butte Ranger District, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

High Rye Cabin is located 20 miles southwest of Butte. From Butte take I-90 west and take the Gregson exit. Drive approximately 2 miles and take a left onto the Gregson road (sign identifies German Gulch and High Rye) for approximately 5 miles. The cabin is located on the right.
