Clark Chateau - Butte

The Clark Chateau is the historic home of Charles and Katherine Clark, Charles being the eldest son of Copper King W.A. Clark. It is currently operates as a museum which highlights the building's architecture and a series of temporary exhibits. Guided tours provide viewings of all four floors of the building. Tour highlights are the parlors with painted wallpaper, seven fireplaces, several stained glass windows,and the fourth-floor ballroom.

Built in 1898-1899, over the years the Chateau has housed a number of families other than the Clarks, including most notably U.S. Senator James Murray, his wife Viola, and their children between 1928 and 1945. In addition, the house was once the site of the Butte College of Music and later the Shriner's Fez Club.

Beginning in mid-May, the temporary exhibit "Celebrating Butte's Architectural History" will feature the photography of Paul Anderson and quilts depicting Butte and Anaconda's striking architecture. The exhibit will run through November 2014.

The price of admission is $7.00 per person or $15.00 per family (up to six individuals).

A small gift shop on-site includes several local history book titles as well as copper coins and bars cast with the "No. 1" logo of the Butte-Silver Bow Archives.
