Hells Canyon Cabin - Whitehall

Hell's canyon cabin was originally built and used as a line cabin for ranchers and then donated to the forest service in 1910. The cabin overlooks Hell's Canyon Creek and is situated within a lush riparian meadow. The cabin is a popular site during the fall, especially for hunters. Amenities include potable well water, a precast concrete toilet, newer wood heater/cooking stove, a propane cooking top outside on the deck, and four bunkbeds to sleep four.

The cabin is available year round and may be rented for three consecutive nights. Cabin capacity is four people. The non-refundable fee is $25.00 per night. Changes in scheduled dates may be assessed an additional fee by the NRRS. For more information please call the district office at (406) 287-3223 4 days prior to your arrival to confirm the combination. Hay and feed must be certified weed free. Potential exposure to hantavirus due to presence of mice droppings inside the cabin. Cell phone coverage is minimal to none. ATVs allowed on designated trails only. Bring garbage bags. This facility is pack it in - pack it out.

The route to cabin is approximately 20 miles south of Whitehall, MT on Highway 55. Go through Silver Star, MT and turn west off Highway 55 just before crossing the Jefferson River onto Forest Service Road 125. Depending on weather conditions, the road can be traveled by 2 x 4 vehicles. Travel Hell's Canyon Road (Forest Service Road 125) to the cabin approximately 14 miles of dirt road.
