Moose Lake Cabin - Philipsburg

Moose Lake cabin was originally built in 1917 and used by the Forest Service as a work cabin. It is located on the Middle Fork of Rock Creek, close to the Anaconda-Pintler Wildnerness. Recreation opportunities include fishing on Rock Creek and hiking in the wilderness. The cabin is available year-round and has a capacity of four.

There is no electricity/sewer site hook-ups at this cabin. Please bring garbage bags. This facility is 'Pack it in/Pack it out.' Cell phone coverage is very limited. Moose Lake is a primitive cabin and has one room with two bunkbeds, water, woodstove, tables and chairs and cookstove (bring your own propane canister). A horse pasture is available and can be used at no extra charge. Hay and feed must be certified weed free.

The fee is $30.00 per night with a $10.00 reservation fee. Any changes in scheduled dates may be assessed an additional fee by NRRS. Call the Ranger District at 406-859-3211 before your arrival for the lock combination.

From Philipsburg, MT, drive approximately 6.3 miles south towards Anaconda on Montana Highway 1 (Pintler Scenic Loop) to its junction with the Skalkaho Highway 38. Turn right on Highway 38 and travel west for approximately 9 miles to its junction with the Moose Lake Road #5106. Turn left on the Moose Lake Road and go south approximately 9 more miles to the Moose Lake Cabin. The entrance road to the cabin is located on the right. Parking is available next to the cabin. Sometimes winter snow conditions may require parking along the main road and hiking in roughly 300 yards to the cabin. Visitors are encouraged to purchase the Beaverhead-Deerlodge Forest Area Travel Map by calling the Pintler Ranger District.
