Choteau Chamber of Commerce - Choteau

This friendly town along the Rocky Mountain Front features dinosaur digs, wildlife and scenery.

Choteau offers everything the visitor could want, from specialty shops and restaurants, to art galleries and gas stations. Here you'll find facilities for picnicking, tennis, swimming, golf and bowling. Accommodations range from campgrounds to motels, to guest ranches and bed & breakfasts.

It is possible to have a hearty early breakfast in Choteau and tour Glacier National Park via the Going-to-the-Sun Highway. Return from Glacier Park's west side via Highway 2 to East Glacier, then Browning, and be back to Choteau for supper and a good night's rest in one of our accommodations.

Choteau offers a wide range of experiences for people of all ages abilities and interests. Opportunities for sightseeing, horseback riding, hiking, fishing, hunting and mountain biking open new vistas. Amateur paleontology tours and seminars enrich and enthrall. And at the end of the day you can simply sit back and watch the sunset work its magic on the mountains west of town.

The areas around Choteau may look familiar to you. Choteau is one of the most popular places in the US to shoot scenery for car commercials. Just about any north-south road will do, paved or gravel. Don't forget your camera to capture memories.

Choteau is home to one the largest dinosaur sites in the world. This site has yielded two new species and the first known dinosaur nests. North of Choteau, the Two Medicine Dinosaur Center features the original Maiasaura young and the largest scientifically accurate replica of a seismosaur.

Just west of town is the Bob Marshall Wilderness (466-5341) with access to 1.5 million acres of wildlands. Pine Butte Swamp (466-5526), also west of town, is a Nature Conservancy Preserve that protects a unique wetland along the Front. For a look at fossils, dinosaurs, Indian artifacts and history, stop at the Old Trail Museum (466-5332). A paleontology interpretive center with hands-on field programs is available for adults and children north of Choteau (469-2211).
